Workshop - Sports Conditioning and Functional Training (Fabio Comana)

Sports conditioning continues to be a popular trend in our industry, but concerns exist with the appropriateness of many of these programs. Efficient three-dimensional movement is critical to exercise and athletic success, yet many of us are not aware of the mechanics involved. We MUST first understand basic movement before introducing more advanced movement patterns or sports conditioning drills to avoid risk of injury to our clients.

Join us and learn key mechanics of primary movement and how to implement sports conditioning drills into your sessions. In this session you will learn the integrated roles of muscles in movement and fun tri-planar drills to effectively prepare the body for more advanced exercise and sports conditioning drills.

Regardless of your training level or experience, this course will improve your knowledge of movement and skills in leading sports conditioning drills.

 

Workshop - Nutrition for Fitness Professionals (Dominique Adair)

You know nutrition is an extremely important piece of the fitness and performance puzzle, but you find it challenging to separate fact from fiction. This 5-hour pre-con, developed and delivered by a registered dietitian and credentialed fitness instructor, covers basic nutrient biochemistry, principles of performance nutrition, the most recent research on weight loss and nutrition for disease prevention.

Come get your nutrition questions answered by a well-respected authority in the fields of fitness and nutrition.

 

Workshop - Strength, Hills, & Power' (Lorey Pro)

As a Spinning Instructor, you're faced with the challenge of creating Spinning rides that produce real fitness benefits for your class participants. If you're like most instructors, your favorite profiles to deliver those results include hills and the Strength Energy Zone™. You know that climbing hills is a great way to build intensity, work large leg muscles and simulate the experience of a real cycling ride.

In this workshop, we'll take your knowledge of hill climbs to another level. This course is all about improving your skill as an instructor through advanced techniques and the physiological basis for training on hills. 3 STAR points for Spinning Instructors.

Workshop - Yoga Flow (Kate Olafson)
Friday - 7:30am-9:00am

 

This is a fluid style of yoga that is most suitable for practitioners with a fundamental practice of the standing poses and sun salutations. We will link the postures together with breath and movement for a creative, fluid and well-balanced program.

The practice Vinyasa (flow) will include standing postures, backbends, arm balances, inversions, abdominals, pranayama, kriyas and relaxation. You will feel invigorated, relaxed and rejuvenated!

 

 
Workshop - High Octane Fueling - Power Your Diet (Fabio Comana)

Curious how to effectively fuel and hydrate the body for fitness and performance? Learn key feeding and hydration strategies used by athletes to help yourself and your clients.

This session teaches nutritional and hydration strategies to follow prior to, during and following exercise to improve performance and accelerate recoveries. Topics covered include carbohydrate loading, protein requirements and fluid intake.

 

 

Workshop - Hi-Steppin' (Christi Taylor)

Take a step up from your traditional hi-lo and step workouts with this spectacular new program! Learn specific cuing tips, analyze transition options, and develop choreographic tools necessary to re-create this HOT workout at your club. Combining floor aerobic choreography with the step, you will find Hi-Steppin' to be creative & fun, powerful & intense, and fast & furious.

Everyone uses this versatile toy in their classes. Join Janice for upper body, lower body, balance, abdominal, and cardio moves using the noodle. Moves for seniors, advanced moves and everything in between! (Okay, it won't be 50 way, but isn't that a cute title?!).

Most of our members want the same thing...RESULTS! They want muscle definition and a reduction of fat. Are your strength training classes and programs giving them what they want?

Enhance postural stability and improve functional strength. Discover how to use simple buoyancy equipment and water's instability to challenge the deepest muscle layers in the body.

Take the method off the mat and get on the ball! This session will show you how to take Pilates mat exercises and progress them using a stability ball. Learn a ton of new exercises, their modifications and how to incorporate them into a flowing, challenging class.

Nothing works your core more than Pilates…until you put Pilates on the sphere of the stability ball!

 

 
Workshop - "Back" in the Game: How to Help Clients with Low Back Pain (Mark Ryan)

HydroChallenge is a energizing cardiovascular and strength training water program. Utilizing large buoyancy cuffs on the ankles in both deep and shallow water, participants will learn choreography to challenge many levels of students including the most athletic.

This class format will bring the most fit participants to the pool from the floor.

Go beyond basic training and develop your knowledge of core conditioning techniques in deep water. Packed with innovative choreography and unique variations, this session focuses on a multitude of safe and effective exercise options for using hand buoys and noodles in the weightless environment of deep water.

 

 
Workshop - Stabilization Cardio (Irene McCormick)
Saturday -7:30am-9:00am

Participants can learn to demonstrate purposeful movement patterns in high/low choreographed classes by incorporating lower-weight medicine balls in 2, 4 and 6 pound increments. Learn to focus on proper alignment, posture and core strength while increasing aerobic capacity.

The movements emphasize simultaneous engagement of the anterior lower core and the posterior upper core, so participants gain greater kinesthetic awareness through core integration and stabilization. Learn how to slow down and stabilize while keeping the intensity level high.

Variety and precision are integral to execution and safety, and intervals can easily be created to meet the needs of both entry-level fitness enthusiasts, to moderate and highly conditioned group fitness participants.

 

 

Workshop - Yoga Inversions (Kate Olafson)

A regular yoga practice is essential before practicing inversions. Yoga fundamentals are the foundation for a confident, therapeutic and safe inverted experience.

The inverted poses help us learn to literally overcome fear and obstacles in practice and apply the theory and practice to barriers in life. The inversions are great for calming the mind, settling the nervous system, shifting the flow of energy and blood in the body and giving the practitioner an incredible sensation of mastery, delight and confidence.

There are several therapeutic benefits to inversions including overcoming insomnia, jet lag and prevention of varicose veins.

Workshop - Pilates for Fitness Instructors (Margie Caldwell Cooper)

This fun workshop is jam-packed with ideas you can use every day in fitness classes or personal training sessions. People have different body types, which has an effect on the way they move naturally in the world.

It is our challenge as fitness professionals to offer biomechanically safe and effective exercises and progressions so that everyone feels successful. Learn a sequence of core strengthening exercises that will "wow" your classes!

This low impact, non-rebounding water workout is an excellent choice for persons who cannot withstand the constant repetition of rebounding in water classes, such as people with Arthritis, Fibromyalgia or CFS.

The hopping, jumping and running movements so prevalent in most aqua classes are replaced by muscle-specific, precise movements performed through a full range of motion using yoga and Pilates-based exercise techniques.

Workshop - Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick (and Jill too!) - Flexibility for the Rest of Us (Shannon Fable)

Flexibility has many benefits stretching beyond injury prevention. Flexibility has the potential to improve performance and our function…but convincing all of your participants to stick around for the cool down or attend a flexibility-inspired class is near impossible.

First, we will revisit the latest research in flexibility training to make sure your approach is as up-to-date as possible. Then, we will develop flexibility sequences, combining traditional exercises with mind/body inspired exercises, to put in the middle of strength training workouts as well as at the end of your workouts.

The sequences will take your participants by surprise, feeling more like a part of the workout or an additional challenge than the "lights off, relaxation" part they skip out on! Perfect for all group fitness instructors and personal trainers.

 

Workshop - "Personal" Comes Before Training (Part 2: Program Design) (Andrea Talmadge)

This course will teach new and established trainers how to use information gained in the initial assessment to design effective, personalized programs for their clients. The advanced service they provide will help them grow their personal training business.
